Account & Sign-in

Do I need to create an account to play?

No. You can start playing instantly as a guest — no sign-up, no email required. You'll get a random username and can jump straight into a match. You can upgrade to a full account (via Google or Apple sign-in) at any time from your profile screen, and all your progress will carry over.

How do I upgrade from a guest account to a full account?

Tap your profile icon, then tap Upgrade Account. Choose Google or Apple sign-in. Your Elo ratings, match history, win streaks, and friends list are all preserved.

How often can I change my username?

Once every 90 days. Go to Profile → Edit Profile to update it.

How do I delete my account?

Email us at support@numvs.app with your username and the subject line "Account Deletion". We'll process it within 7 days. Note that deletion is permanent and cannot be undone.

Gameplay

How do I challenge a friend to a match?

From the Home screen, tap Create Game to generate a 6-character lobby code. Share that code with your friend through any channel (WhatsApp, iMessage, etc.). They tap Join Game, enter the code, and you're in the same lobby. When both players mark Ready, the match starts automatically.

What's the difference between bulls and cows in Bulls & Cows?

A bull means the digit is correct and in the right position. A cow means the digit is in your opponent's code but in the wrong position. Aim for all bulls to crack the code.

Why does my Equation Duel guess get rejected?

Every guess in Equation Duel must be a mathematically valid equation. For example, 12+34=46 is valid, but 12+34=50 is not. Check that both sides of the equals sign are balanced before submitting.

What happens if my opponent disconnects mid-game?

If your opponent disconnects, the game enters a short grace period. If they don't reconnect within the allowed time, the match is forfeited in your favour and your Elo updates accordingly.

Do local or AI games affect my Elo or win streak?

No. Only online matches against real human opponents count toward your Elo ratings and win streaks. This keeps the rankings fair.

Elo & Ratings

What is Elo and how does it work in NumVs?

Elo is a rating system that measures your skill relative to other players. Every online match adjusts both players' ratings based on the outcome and the skill gap between them. You start at 1200. Your K-factor (how much ratings shift per match) is 40 for your first 30 games, then drops to 20, meaning your rating stabilises as you play more.

Do I have a separate Elo for each game?

Yes. You have a per-game Elo for each game type (Bulls & Cows, Equation Duel, 24 Game, Higher/Lower Duel) and a combined Elo that averages across all games you've played. Both are shown on your profile.

Why hasn't my Elo updated yet after a match?

Elo updates are processed asynchronously in the background, usually within a few seconds of a match ending. If your rating hasn't updated after a couple of minutes, try refreshing your profile. If it persists, email us.

Daily Puzzle

What is the daily puzzle?

Every day, a new Equation Duel and Bulls & Cows puzzle is released simultaneously for all players worldwide. Everyone gets the same puzzle, making it a true global comparison. You can share your result as a coloured grid, similar to Wordle.

What happens to my streak if I fail the puzzle?

Attempting the puzzle — even if you don't solve it — counts as playing for that day. Your streak only resets if you miss a day entirely (i.e. don't open the puzzle at all).

When does the daily puzzle reset?

Puzzles reset at midnight UTC each day. You'll receive a push notification at 8 AM (puzzle is ready) and another at 8 PM if you haven't played yet (last chance reminder), based on your device's local time.

Technical Issues

The app is crashing or not loading. What should I do?

First, try closing the app fully and reopening it. If the issue persists, check that your app is updated to the latest version in the App Store or Google Play. You can also try uninstalling and reinstalling — your account data is stored server-side and won't be lost. If nothing works, email support@numvs.app with your device model and OS version.

I'm not receiving push notifications.

Go to your device's Settings → NumVs → Notifications and make sure notifications are enabled. Also check that your notification token is registered: open NumVs, go to Profile → Settings and ensure notifications are turned on within the app as well.

My match disconnected mid-game. Is my Elo affected?

If both players disconnect simultaneously (e.g., server issue), the match is voided and Elo is not updated. If only you disconnect, the match may be forfeited depending on the grace period. For a legitimate technical issue on our side, email us and we can review the match.
